Monthly Gem | The Bryant

Bryant Park … it’s one of the go-to destinations in NYC, and it’s no wonder.  Its European-style seating, its fountains, its programming and nibbles, they create a year-round draw to the area.  Its location only elevates this destination status, with the diverse shops, public spaces and transportation options that abound in its neighborhood.  It is why we were moved to name as our monthly gem the last available development space on the park and the first in NYC to be designed by the award-winning British architect, David Chipperfield.

Located at 16 West 40th, Street, The Bryant sits high above a new boutique hotel, with nearly every residence enjoying a panoramic city skyline or park views. This is true NY living at the literal center of it all: Grand Central and Times Square are steps away yet un-intrusive. This month’s Monthly Gem is in a very unique, mostly office-building dominated midtown location on 52nd Street, between 6th and 7th Avenues. You shouldn’t scrunch your nose at that, however, as it’s one of the few “reasonable” price-points we’ve seen in some time, with plentiful amenities to enjoy. This month’s gem finds itself in one of the most dynamic and diverse neighborhoods of NYC: the Lower East Side. It is against this bustling backdrop that 196 Orchard sits.  Our monthly gem is everything you’d expect a building in the neighborhood to be:  sophisticated but in a textured, industrial way, overflowing with grounded luxury.

Designed by Incorporated Architecture and Design, the building is crowned by rooftop gardens and features oversized, dramatic metallic bronze industrial-styled casement windows, surrounded by imported gilded bronze glazed Spanish bricks. The aesthetic pays homage to the neighborhood’s past and its vibrant present, punctuated by an equally lively Equinox gym on the ground floor.

Why did we choose 196 Orchard?   First, we believe that the Lower East Side will be the next Chelsea.  The neighborhood has the unique mixture of grit and glamour, home to a diverse population of young and old, along with city newbies and veterans.  Further, it is well served by public transportation, while also sitting at the intersections of some of the most vibrant communities in the city: the East Village, Nolita, and Chinatown, and a stone’s throw away from Soho and the West Village.  Until now, very few new developments have broken ground here, so we believe this to be a great opportunity to gain a foothold in this up and coming hood.  Further, the varied mix of price points and sizes among its 93 residences make it very appealing for residents and investors, alike.


Monthly Gem | 212 Fifth Avenue

This month we are featuring 212 Fifth Avenue as the monthly gem, and for good reason. Our team toured the beautiful Penthouse property that was as exquisite as its Madison Square Park location.  Fun fact:  representing NYC’s 212 area code, the developer was attracted to the building’s matching address as one of its many virtues.

As a neo-Gothic sky-scraper, this iconic tower has been recently converted to 48 residences boasting open floor plans, tall ceilings and oversized windows (most of which showcase mention stellar park and city views). Previously built as a manufacturing building, the 2-3 units per floor all get outstanding light that bounces off its solid oak and marble floors from the two to three exposures that every unit gets.

The amenities are exceptional for a boutique building, featuring a 24-hour doorman, concierge, cold storage, fitness center (with yoga studio and treatment room, playroom, game room, residents’ lounge, catering kitchen, screening room and valet parking. Although the building’s location provides it easy access to many subways, residents may just want to walk out into the park without leaving home turf.

This Month’s Gem | 175 W. 10th Street
